UCO’S ‘Untapped Potential’ Scholarship Scheme

Progressing to higher education is a difficult step to take for some people.

That can be down to a lack of confidence, fear of the unknown, or concerns about costs and whether an individual or family can afford it.

UCO is highly experienced in supporting students from all backgrounds to succeed in higher education and progress into skilled and rewarding employment.

We recognise, however, that for some students the potential cost of completing a higher level qualification can be a barrier.

That’s why we have developed the ‘Untapped Potential’ Scholarship’ to help Oldham College students (only) with progression.

This is support students who meet the eligibility criteria to access and successfully complete a higher education qualification whilst remaining close to home.

The ‘Untapped Potential’ Scholarship aims to recognise potential and provides successful applicants with £1,000 in their first year of study to help with costs like travel, study resources and equipment.

The money is paid to scholars across three instalments in October (£300), February (£300) and June (£400)*.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

Applications will be assessed on the strength of the application form. The scholarship is only available to new first year students enrolled on an undergraduate programme (HNC, Foundation Degree, Foundation Year or Honours Degree). Returning students, postgraduate and teacher education students and students enrolled on professional diplomas are excluded from this scheme.

*Instalments will be paid as long as the student remains enrolled and active on their course. Active means submitting assessed work and maintaining attendance of at least 75%

** Evidence of household income will be taken from the applicant’s SFE application.
