Michael Dessington

Lecturer, Children and Young People

Mike is a Lecturer within the Children and Young People Team.

Building on his professional experience in a variety of roles across playwork, development, research, training and education with local, national and international organisations, Mike joined University Campus Oldham in September 2016. Prior to this, Mike worked as a chief executive officer for a children’s play charity in west London. Through a multidisciplinary approach, Mike has shared knowledge and experience on the complexities of working with children and young people to undergraduate students both in the UK and in Australia.

His current research interests focus on children’s playful use of public spaces and the use of rhizomatic teaching strategies to support professional practitioners working with children.
