Geoffrey Evans

Course Leader / Lecturer in Accounting and Finance

After a varied career in retail management and financial services, Geoff started his teaching career at Hugh Baird College in Liverpool teaching Business and Accounting on AAT provision and HNC/D’s in Business and Management. Geoff moved to Oldham College as Curriculum Manager for Accounting and Financial Services in 2005, then in 2013 moved to Salford City College to set up AAT Accounting provision, a Career Ready in Accounting course for 16-18 year olds and the development of Access/Foundations Degrees in collaboration with University of Salford’s Business School. Geoff started at UCO in November 2018.

At Oldham College and Salford City College Geoff has been involved with the Career Ready charitable programme providing mentors and six week paid internships for Business and Accounting students with the support of employers such as Lloyds Banking Group, ITV, Bank of New York Mellon and from the accounting profession support from PWC, BDO, RSM and Grant Thornton. Geoff set up an employer led Local Advisory Board to support provision by providing guest lectures, work place visits and advice and guidance regarding curriculum design.

As Head of Department Geoff was the link coordinator for Business and Management and Events and Hospitality Foundation Degrees affiliated through the University of Salford. His teaching commitments included AAT Levels 3 and 4, Operations Management, Law in a Business Context and Financial Management Information Systems at Level 5

Continuing with his determination to link employment to education Geoff set up an employer led Advisory Board to help support the development of Salford’s curriculum: Holiday Inn in Media City helped write Level 4 Hospitality units, he initiated and set up employer led projects with Kellogg’s, Seven Brothers Brewery and Salford Council for the work based learning unit for Level 5 Foundation Degree students.

As a result, Geoff has embarked on his PhD with Salford University focusing on Boyer’s four Scholarship domains: discovery, integration, application and Teaching and Learning with a view to aligning those domains to the needs of students and prospective employers. As Course Leader and Lecturer I Accounting and Financial Services Geoff is keen to develop employer links to provide students project led assessments and work placements.

Geoff provided advice and guidance on how best to engage with employers at Conferences in Manchester and London and is currently involved in the development of 2021 AAT Assessment standards
