Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Business
The Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Business offers students a broad introduction to the key aspects of managing and operating in a business environment. The varied modules enable students to develop their knowledge of several key functions, including accounting, marketing, law and human resource management. This effectively builds underpinning core skills and knowledge and prepares students for subject specialisation at Level 5. Students will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study and workplace scenarios.
The Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate in Business is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning and who wish to pursue or advance their career in business and the varied functions within it. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of business, the BTEC Higher National Certificate will give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector, which will prepare them for further study or training.
All of the modules on the HNC Business are compulsory. The HNC Business does not include any elective modules, therefore for students to successfully complete the course, completion of all modules is required.
Throughout the course, students are encouraged to undertake relevant paid or voluntary work, in order to build their skills and experience.
The Level 4 Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding in business, which students can build on should they decide to continue their studies beyond the Certificate stage. Students may choose to continue their studies on the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business or an alternative Level 5 course and upon successful completion of Level 5 study, may continue to Honours level to earn a full Level 6 degree at UCO or elsewhere.
Alternatively, students may choose to seek to develop their career in the business sector, by accessing paid or voluntary work in the varied and wide-ranging sector locally and regionally.
The course is delivered by a series of lectures, seminars, tutorials, assignments and project based work. There is a strong focus on practical work, devising group strategies and solutions and feeding back via formal presentation. Students are also encouraged to work independently and to develop the necessary skills to enable the presentation of the highest standard with regards to academic submissions. The combination of theory and practice will enable students to engage in a wide range of activities that reflect modern day policing practice.
Assessments may take various forms and could include essays, reports, presentations, reflections on learning, and practical demonstrations.
