CMI Level 5 Certificate in Project Management

As the professional home for managers, CMI is the only chartered professional body dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence. This Level 5 qualification is aimed at practising or aspiring managers and leaders who are typically accountable to a senior manager or business owner. It is aimed at leaders managing projects, although the qualification is also open to learners wishing to build on their general management skills.

Who is the course for?

The course will be of interest to anyone who wishes to further their knowledge of how to successfully manage projects or to develop their career as a manager or progress to senior management roles. Students are likely to already be working as a junior or middle manager within an organisation.

The qualification has been designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as:

  • Project Manager
  • Operations Manager
  • Divisional Manager
  • Departmental Manager
  • Regional Manager
  • Specialist Manager

The course is designed to use the experience of students to enrich the learning and to allow students to apply the learning from the course directly to their own experience in the workplace.
Delivered part-time, using a mix of face-to-face and online learning, the course is designed to fit around the commitments of full-time employment.

Placements and work experience

The course is designed for people currently in employment and looking to upskill or retrain. Students will be supported to use their experiences in the workplace to inform discussions and learning and will also have the opportunity to directly apply their learning from the course to their work, adding immediate value to their employer.

What careers can the course lead to?

The CMI Level 5 Certificate in Project Management will provide students with the knowledge and skills to develop their career in management and progress to senior roles. Students may already be in a junior or middle management role, or their may aspire to develop their career in that way. Students will have Affiliate Membership of the CMI for the duration of their studies, with the opportunity to continue this individually after the course.

Upon completion of the course, students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to add immediate value to their current or future employer in a management role. Students may also choose to continue their studies by completing the Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership qualification with the goal of eventually applying for Chartered Manager status through the CMI.

Teaching and Assessment methods

The course will be delivered by UCO’s expert business and management tutors, who have a wealth of experience in management roles, teaching and supporting students to succeed. Classes will be delivered face-to-face, enhanced by additional online resources and tutor support. Both units will be assessed by way of coursework, enabling students to apply their learning directly to their experiences in the workplace. Coursework may include written assignments, presentations, reflections and reports.

All students will have full access to UCO’s extensive academic library, academic development team and online resources, as well as CMI Management Direct.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade C/4 English or equivalent Level 2 qualification. GCSE Maths grade C/4 or equivalent Level 2 qualification is desirable.

A relevant Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience from employment

Where English is not an applicant’s first language, they will be expected to possess an IELTS band score of 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any one element) or a recognised English language Level 2 qualification. Alternatively, they may complete the College’s English diagnostic assessment.

Applicants who do not have the qualifications specified above but who hold alternative qualifications and/or experience demonstrating appropriate knowledge and skills at Level 4 may be admitted to the programme following an interview.
